21 March 08 - We are quickly becoming professional photographers. Or at least, we look like professional photographers.
Today, Her Royal Majesty and I purchased a tripod at Sim Lim Square. We wanted to get a tripod in anticipation of the photos that we will be taking during our European honeymoon, and had been talking about it for a while.
Despite that, our original intention in visiting Sim Lim Square was simply to drop off our faulty laptop for repair. On our way to the shop, Her Royal Majesty spotted a rather portable-looking tripod at a camera shop. It was definitely a far cry from those monsters used by professionals, but it fitted our criteria of portability and ease of use. Furthermore, it was relatively cheap, only $20.

We then quickly deposited our laptop for repair, and went around in search of other suitable tripods. I recalled a shop on the first floor which usually gave quite good prices for cameras and other photographic equipment, and we headed there to try our luck.
The salesman recommended a model which was very similar to the one which Her Royal Majesty had spotted. However, it seemed to be a little flimsy when it was fully extended. Noting our concerns, the salesman returned with another model. This was slightly larger, and definitely more sturdy than the previous model. It was also "branded" --- Nikon.
After a quick discussion, we decided to purchase the Nikon tripod despite the higher price. We were convinced that this model was of a higher quality than the previous ones, and would most likely be more durable. And of course, it also helped that its all-black design and brand name made us look like discerning would-be photographers who knew their stuff.
Now all we have to do is to make our way to Europe.
The Nikon tripod.
